JEDDAH: About 100,000 citizens and residents, both men and women, registered for Haj 2016 through the electronic portal within 72 hours.
The website received a million visitors during the same period, said Ali Al-Ghamdi, media and public relations supervisor at the Ministry of Haj and Umrah.
Al-Ghamdi said the number of people who register electronically is expected to grow in the coming days.
He stressed that the ministry is keen to implement the programs designed to protect the pilgrims’ rights and to ensure equal opportunities during the pilgrimage.
Al-Ghamdi said the electronic bracelet would be used this year to speed up identification of pilgrims and obtain the necessary information the enables the ministry to help pilgrims. This will improve the performance and efficiency of all those involved in the pilgrimage, shorten the time taken to follow procedures and provide clear information.
The e-bracelets include serial numbers given to the pilgrims at the borders, visa and passport numbers besides all the other information regarding their photos, accommodations and relevant phone numbers.
