Addressing the opening session of the fourth periodical meeting of the G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Consultation Forum, Chairman of the Shoura Council Abdullah Al-Asheikh stressed the Kingdom’s rich and pioneering experience in countering issues such as water shortage, citing Saudi Arabia’s effort to find sustainable and practical solutions at all levels.

The forum, organized by Mexico’s Senate, was held April 3 to 5 in Mexico City and attended by representatives of the G20 member states as well as Spain, Argentina, Chile and Colombia.

“The parliamentary meeting of G20 countries is in itself a bright point in the collective work to push the wheels of sustainable development and achieve the aspirations of people all over the world,” Al-Asheikh said.

The forum’s previous meeting was held in Riyadh in February 2012.

“We firmly believe in the importance of the role that could be played by the G20 countries in resolving current issues and seeking ways of international cooperation to tackle and cope with the issues in our capacity as representatives of the peoples of those countries,” Al-Asheikh said.

It is the duty of parliaments to make joint efforts to create an environment that brings about balanced relations among countries based on mutual justice, dialogue, mutual confidence, humanitarian work and integration in different fields in which the countries could achieve all the aspirations of their societies, he was quoted as saying by the Saudi Press Agency.

The Shoura chairman also expressed his thanks to the Mexican organizers for a warm welcome and generous hospitality accorded to the participants in the forum.
