JEDDAH: Minister of Haj and Umrah Mohammed Salih Bentin has confirmed that the World Health Organisation (WHO) is the only body which has jurisdiction for specifying the list of countries that suffer from health issues or epidemics that might pose threats to the health and lives of pilgrims.
According to a local publication, the Haj minister was speaking to the press following the first of his inspection tours of Tawafa establishments in Makkah. He said that his ministry will depend on the reports issued by the WHO regarding the diseases that are currently found in a number of countries, adding that any country that is found to be free of any diseases or epidemics among its people will be allowed to perform Haj rituals this year.
He added that the provision of Zamzam water for pilgrims by the government of the Kingdom is one of its most important duties, and which also involves reducing the crowding inside the Grand Mosque and preventing the illegal trading of water, noting that Zamzam water is provided free of charge and that any funds that the United Zamzam Office collects are merely to cover the transportation costs.
He pointed out that the United Zamzam Office is the only watering service to deliver the water to the pilgrims at their residences in Makkah. “Very soon the work of the office will be developed to deliver Zamzam water to the premises of the pilgrims during the Umrah season,” explained the minister.
He said that the ministry has completed the allocation of the headquarters of companies for the service of pilgrims from inside the Kingdom in the holy sites and has also announced the price list for the Haj season this year and the categories covered by the services.
“The details will be announced soon, as well as the mechanisms of registration for pilgrims from inside the Kingdom on the electronic system at the end of this month,” he said.
The chairman of board of directors of the United Zamzam Office explained that the office has now finished its preparations to provide Zamzam water for all pilgrims coming from outside of the UK to their residences in Makkah.
Additionally, the minister explained that a control room at the Ministry was established to monitor the grouping of pilgrims and the congestion in the streets.
