RIYADH: The Kingdom’s economy has failed to generate enough jobs for citizens.
The annual statistics issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency showed the number of Saudis working in the private sector amounted to 1.7 million, representing 16 percent only of the total number of employees in the sector, while the number of foreigners amounted to nearly 8.83 million employees.
Some reports noted that the Kingdom recruits around 1.5 million foreign workers annually, occupying various positions in the private sector.
Meanwhile, the estimated volume of commercial coverup stands at SR236.5 billion, and the number of illegal employment is increasing with 1.2 million workers annually on average.
Ali Al-Shobi, an economic expert, said the jobs generated by the Saudi economy for citizens do not match the size and stature of the Kingdom's economy, noting that the membership of Saudi Arabia in G20 clearly highlights the Kingdom's economy size and strength.
