MADINAH: The Madinah governorate has begun implementing plans to serve the pilgrims arriving in Madinah for Haj.

The plans cover different areas including environmental health, markets, general hygiene, health control, street lights, and 24-hour surveillance of the city’s roads throughout the season.

Madinah Mayor Mohammed Al-Amri said the plan included all human and material energies to provide the highest standards of services for the guests of Allah.

The plan is supported and followed closely by Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman and Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Abdul Lateef Al-Asheikh, he said.

The plan contains elements to guarantee the safety of Hajis and visitors and the environment around them in order to make sure that it is free from all pollutants. The plans will be in place without hampering the level of services provided to citizens and residents, and will take into consideration the increased activity of business in the area and the number of pilgrims, he said.

The plan is aimed to guarantee the speedy provision of services to the guests of Allah, the provision of general hygiene and how to deal with the increase of wastes in areas where the pilgrims reside, he said.

The plan also aims to keep the city streets and districts clean, conduct pest control without harming the health of Hajis, and ensure the safety of food, water and restaurant compliance with required safety regulations, he said.

A general guideline is in effect in terms of equipment, labor and supervisors during the Haj season, he said.

The number of workers in the central area is 349 and they are divided into three shifts with the busiest days fixed from the beginning of Dul Qadah for the next 70 days.

Meanwhile, laborers and equipment will be distributed to all branch municipalities to ensure work is carried out properly while owners of commercial businesses have been asked to allocate waste compressors that can be readily transported to the general dumping yard.
