RIYADH/JEDDAH: The Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia on Sunday celebrated Pakistan’s National Day with fervor and enthusiasm.
Ambassador Manzoor ul Haq unfurled the national flag at a colorful ceremony held at the embassy premises in the Diplomatic Quarters in Riyadh.
Speaking on the occasion, he shed light on the importance of August 14 and the sacrifices made by the Pakistani leaders for attaining freedom.
A huge cake, on which a colorful Pakistani flag was embossed, was cut by the envoy to commemorate the occasion.
The flag-hoisting ceremony at the embassy was attended by a large number of Pakistani workers, besides Pakistani diplomats and community leaders. The star attraction at the event was Pakistani legend Ghulam Shabbir, who claims to be the tallest man in the world at the height of eight feet.
In Jeddah, Consul General Shahryar Akbar Khan unfurled the national flag in the presence of a large number of community members, distinguished Saudi guests and the Consulate staff. The celebrations started with the recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an.
Asif Memon, deputy consul general, read out President Mamnoon Hussain’s message while Saeed Sarwar, head of chancery, read out the Prime Minister’s message.
Khan said August 14 brings the memories of the huge efforts made by the Muslims of South Asia and their sacrifices in the creation of their beloved homeland under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Hailing the historic ties with Saudi Arabia, he said the two countries share common political, strategic and economic objectives.
