RIYADH: Families of deceased residents of the Comprehensive Female Rehabilitation Center in Dammam denounced the statement from the Ministry of Labor and Social Development by its spokesman Khalid Aba Al-Khail, which pointed out that the deaths of seven residents didn’t occur inside the center.
He said the cause of death of these girls was due to their transfer to hospital while they were in critical condition, and because of negligence. The families demanded a full-scale investigation in the incident.
A consultant who wished to remain anonymous said he stressed that some of the cases he treated needed to be hospitalized, but no one responded to his requests. He said it is normal for these women to die outside the center.
The father of Sara Al-Khalidi said the Dammam rehabilitation center is responsible for his daughter’s death, and said he intends to hire a lawyer. He wondered why was his daughter was taken to a hospital by a Nepali cleaner working at the center. He described his daughter’s body as lacerated. He confirmed that he isn’t looking for financial compensation, he just wants the truth to be revealed so that the other residents suffer the same fate as his daughter’s. He added that the center asks parents to secure medication and other requirements for residents, and that the ministry doesn’t provide them. He said he secured all his daughter’s requirements. Furthermore, he said the center has only one doctor, and the facility is in a sorry state.
In his tweets to the spokesman of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, the father said the truth is distorted and deceives society into believing there are no problems at the center.
Father of the dead Nora Al-Naeem, 25 years old, said the center didn’t allow him or her mother to visit her. He described the place as secretive, and no one knows what goes on inside. He added that his daughter suffers from mental retardation, but she can walk, and she died as a result of negligence by the supervisors and employees of the center.
He pointed out that his daughter swallowed something while unattended, and choked before being taken to hospital. He said he was only told about her hospitalization the next day, and called for an investigation to stop the recurrence of such incidents.
