JEDDAH: Sources at Dr. Suleiman Fakih Hospital in Jeddah said the two policemen who were injured in the bombing in the hospital parking lot, near the US Consulate in Jeddah on Monday, are recovering fast.

They said the policemen are in the hospital for security, not medical reasons, and they are in good condition with only minor injuries.

Security sources said the remains of the deceased terrorist, who detonated the suicide bomb, are in government custody. Spokesman for the Ministry of Interior Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki gave details of the incident, which he said took place at 2:15 a.m. at the intersection of Hail and Palestine streets near the hospital’s parking lot. The policemen grew suspicious of the movements of one individual, and upon approaching him to investigate, he detonated the bomb and blew himself up. The policemen suffered minor injuries and were admitted to the hospital, and no other individual in the area was harmed.

One eyewitness said the man blew himself up as he was being exposed to shots by the security men, and before they reached him, while another witness said the hospital parking lot was mostly empty, as was the nearby mosque.

The Council of Senior Scholars, in an official tweet, described the attacker as having “lost and perished.”
