JEDDAH: The “bisht” was missing during the last visit of Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the United States and to Silicon Valley, but he created a new fashion statement wearing casual tailor-made suits.
His visit, however, was clear through his movements and simple expressions, which held many implications about the new Saudi youth and their role, with him searching to give a new light to Saudi youths.
His tie and suit were different from what he wore at his first meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry at his residence. With Facebook chief Mark Zuckerburg, the prince came wearing youthful attire like his hosts, not too costly, but splashed over social media websites showing what the new generation wears in terms of dress and movement. The prince appeared wearing virtual reality glasses and went up against Zuckerburg in a bowling match.
The sports jacket was also noticeable as he met the CEOs of big companies, especially Apple boss Tim Cook. The American press and world media got this impression of youth as well as the hidden messages the prince carried. The media said his appearance reflects the new kind of youthfully dynamic thinking of Saudi society where youths comprise about 60 percent of the population.
The global media is describing the deputy crown prince as the “prince of change and the new face of Saudi Arabia,” while Twitter followers are calling him the new Saudi spirit reflected in government and people speaking the same language. This is especially seen since as the prince met young Saudis working in Silicon Valley in technical projects at mega-companies.
The body language and dress carried by the young prince held much meaning, focusing on work, achievement, transparency, business, youthful spirit, a futuristic view for a Kingdom searching for pioneers for a modern state with the help of international expertise, but with a local hand.
