JEDDAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has ordered the state to pay water bills of social security beneficiaries for up to 150 liters per person per day, or 54,000 liters annually.
Abdul Rahman Al-Fadli, minister of water, environment and agriculture, announced the royal decision and tweeted a message of gratitude and appreciation .
Sources said that the ministry, in addition to the Ministry of Labor and Social Development and the National Water Company, will start coordinating efforts immediately to begin implementation of the decision. The Ministry of Water, Environment and Agriculture is responsible for issuing water bills all across the Kingdom, except for in Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, and Taif, where it is the responsibility of the National Water Company.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Development’s role in this regard stems from its responsibility to social security beneficiaries.
The director of the ministry’s branch in the Makkah region, Abdullah Al-Olayan, said the king’s approval to bear the cost of water for social security beneficiaries is representative and an extension of the king’s support and assistance offered to this category of citizens.
“Beneficiaries of social security benefit from a large bundle of state-sponsored services, including monthly allowances and financial aid to pay electricity bills, support for productive families, school uniforms and supplies support, home furnishing and renovation support, and now this generous decision to help families live in dignity,” he said.
The former director of social affairs in Qassim, Fahad Al-Mutlaq, also praised the decision of King Salman, which he described as one of a series of kind decisions that will help citizens meet their basic needs and live decent lives. He said the gesture is proof of the support and concern of the king and the state toward those of limited income, and one that comes as no surprise.
Meanwhile, citizens praised the decision of King Salman to assist social insurance beneficiaries cover water needs. Nahez Rashid Al-Harbi and Omar Awad Al-Harbi said the gesture confirms King Salman’s clear commitment to and empathy toward citizens and their needs.
Khalif Hilal Al-Osaimi said the move comes as no surprise from the king, who worries about citizens and stands with them, as well is keen to promote continuous improvement of their living conditions.
