RIYADH: Riyadh Municipality on Friday presented a play titled “Story,” that portrayed the bad effects of social media, with the participation of the blind actors.
The play was held at the University of Dar Al Uloom theater in collaboration with the Blind Charitable Society, as part of Riyadh Municipality’s Eid Al-Fitr celebration.
“Social media is useful but it has bad effects as well. This is what the play wanted to convey,” well-known Islamic scholar, writer and TV host Mohsin Shaikh Al-Hassan said.
Al-Hassan said that the play had a social context as it showed what’s actually happening in society at the present wherein anybody can say anything he or she wants about anything and anybody.
“Through social media, one can praise someone he likes and criticize a person he dislikes, without being accountable for it,” he said. The play also showed the dangers of social media as far as children are concerned, since they could be reached by bad people.
Daesh, for instance, has used social media to recruit adherents, particularly young people to carry out their evil designs to sow terror in society. For this reason, the play suggested that parents closely monitor and guide their young children as far as social media is concerned. The play also showed that social media could be used for other evil purposes.
“Daesh, for instance, has targeted soldiers and it could ask young recruits to kill soldiers who are family members,” Al-Hassan said.
The play was directed by Khaled El Baz and written by Haitham Al Sayed. The cast included Mohammed Ali Saud, Fahd and Abdul Karim Al Harbi, Mohammed Rayani, Ammar Khalidi, Talal Al Meshal, Hassan Dhabaan, among others.
