A young Saudi man who fell in a deep well on Thursday while picnicking in Muzahamiya, south of Riyadh, has been saved by the Civil Defense and Red Crescent Authority after three days.

Badr Al-Baz, 29, is now at Prince Salman Hospital receiving treatment. The incident occurred after his car broke down in a desert area about 100 km from the capital city. Al-Baz had climbed a hill looking for help and fell into the abandoned well on his way down.

His brother, Fahd, said Badr remained unconscious for an entire day and only regained consciousness the next day, after which he began shouting for help.

Munir Al-Buqami, who was passing by the well with his son and a dog, heard Badr’s cries.

“It was actually the dog that recognized my brother’s voice and started barking. This caught the attention of Al-Buqami and his son,” Fahd told the Al-Arabiya channel. Al-Buqami then called police to rescue Badr.

Fahd said his brother is now in stable condition. “God saved him and gave him a new life; this is a miracle,” he said.

He urged authorities to take immediate action to close abandoned wells and holes across the country to avert potential tragedy.
