KARACHI, 11 August — A two-member bench of the Sindh High Court upheld an appeal from Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and set aside an earlier court order asking her for personal appearance in a case today. The bench, comprising Justices Muhammad Ashraf Leghari and Mubjeebullah Siddiqi agreed that the petitioner need not appear in person to answer charges in a corruption case filed by the National Accountability Bureau. Benazir has been in self exile since April 1999. She and her husband Asif Zardari have been facing innumerable charges since the downfall of their government in 1996. The appeal was filed by Benazir who is also the leader of the Pakistan People’s Party on the grounds that she had gone out of the country with the permission of the Supreme Court and therefore can be subjected to lower court decision.
