Pakistani fashion gains traction in Bangladesh as Sana Safinaz opens second outlet in Dhaka
  • Pakistani brands Maria B., Sapphire, J., Gul Ahmed opened their outlets in Bangladesh this year
  • Bangladesh, the second-largest apparel exporter in the world after China, lacks foreign retailers

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani fashion label Sana Safinaz opened its second retail outlet in Dhaka this week, the country’s high commission in Bangladesh said, reflecting the growing demand for Pakistani brands overseas.

Pakistani fashion brands have expanded into Bangladesh this year as political relations between the two countries improve. Brands such as Maria B., Sapphire, J., Gul Ahmed, Nishat and Sana Safinaz opened their outlets in Bangladesh this year.

“High Commissioner Imran Haider today inaugurated a new outlet of Pakistani brand Sana Safinaz in Centerpoint Mall, Dhaka,” the Pakistan High Commission in Bangladesh wrote on X on Saturday.

“The High Commissioner on this occasion hoped that Bangladeshi business houses will continue to create new linkages with their Pakistani counterparts,” the statement said.

Sana Safinaz, established in 1989 by fashion designers Sana Hashwani and Safinaz Muneer, is an established fashion label in Pakistan. It opened its first outlet in Dhaka in March this year.

The brand’s entry into Bangladesh also showcases the growing demand for foreign retailers in the country.

Bangladesh, which produces many of the world’s garments, lacks foreign retailers. The second-largest apparel exporter in the world after China, Bangladesh specializes in ready-made garments for many global brands such as H&M, Zara, and Uniqlo.

While their products are available in the market — mostly as factory leftovers — they do not have their official stores in the country.
