Arab News had a one-on-one interview with the makeup artist, who did the Lux Fashion Show and many photo shoots for local fashion designers. “I have worked with many talented fashion brands such as Kalimah, nouri ,fashflare,Sotra ,Haal inc and fyunka,” she said. “I have also worked on different projects, such as the Pink Project, which the well-known photographer Mokhtar Chahine and I worked on to raise awareness about breast cancer,” she added.
The Lux Fashion Show was one of the biggest and best projects Hammoud worked on, and according to her it was a beautiful challenge. “We had to create different looks for the same dresses over and over. I was in charge of creating different hair and makeup for at least five models at a time,” she said. “The fashion show was for 13 days and took place in Jeddah, Riyadh and Alkhobar and was a big success. I feel my hard work paid off. At the end I managed to make 13 different looks for the models,” she added.
Fashion TV is what made Hammoud fall in love with makeup and especially the Christian Dior shows and backstage footage. “Ever since I was young, I always made sure to watch this channel to see the fashion, makeup and hair. This world fascinated me,” she said. “My career as a makeup artist started when I was a makeup artist for MAC. Then I started giving makeup classes for four years. I wanted to do more and so I started with fashion makeup with Chahine, and we made a great team,” she added.
Hammoud said she would rather stay at home than work in beauty salons in Jeddah. “I love doing fashion photo shoots and fashion shows, and if I were working in a salon I would be limited to do the makeup for the salon’s clients only,” she said. “I want to be special with what I do; therefore, I started with the photo shoots but I still do brides and freelance makeup from time to time.” Fashion makeup is great for magazines as well as on fashion runways, and its applicable techniques are used for projects that require experimental themes. Whatever the theme, there is makeup that can match it, according to Hammoud. “I can match the makeup and hair with the theme of the photo shoot and the designer’s style easily, as makeup has a different approach for everyone,” she said. The woman’s personality and the makeup artist’s mood is what turns the makeup into an art piece. “Sometimes I like to know more about the woman I’m applying makeup for, because I always want to reflect her personality in her makeup and appearance,” said Hammoud. “Other times, when I have mixed feelings and I feel like doing an art piece using makeup, I immediately call Chahine and start a photo shoot to capture the look,” she added.
Hammoud says that women should never leave the house without putting on day cream. “Women should always take care of their skin, because that makes it look better. If you have a good skin, your makeup will look amazing,” she said. “Women should never leave the house without their lipstick, mascara, blush, concealer and powder in their handbag,” she added.
Spring and summer makeup for 2012 is pastel colors with flashy lipstick such as coral, pink and purple, said Hammoud. “Makeup artists should always update themselves with the new trends, and I make sure to follow worldwide trends through fashion TV and online research. I recommend women to go for simple makeup, because less is more,” she added.
