The Administrative Court has convicted two former officials of the Jeddah municipality of misuse of their official position in a case related to the catastrophic Jeddah floods of late 2009.
Six others, including businessmen and expats, were acquitted of charges of bribery, forgery, misuse of administrative positions and financial exploitation.
The two former employees were found guilty of misusing their administrative power in issues related to the map of the floodwater drainage system in a residential area. One official was sentenced to six months in jail, while the other was sentenced to four years.
Khaled Al-Mehmadi, legal adviser and lawyer of two of the acquitted businessmen and an expatriate, said Thursday's ruling reflected the fairness of the Saudi justice system and its commitment to considering facts from all perspectives.
