Sick teacher complains of salary stoppage

A teacher, who spent 27 years in active service, has had his salary payment suspended and has also been denied early retirement for his inability to work due to an ailment and absence from work, local media said.
Speaking to Sabq.com online paper, Ibrahim Al-Khiraijah, who works as a Qur'an recitation teacher in a school in Aflaj Province and holds a doctoral degree, said he suffered from a toe wound caused by diabetes and was subsequently admitted to King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh to have the toe amputated.
Following the operation, he could hardly walk after experiencing a blood clot due to medical negligence. This developed into tri-paralysis and weakness in voice which caused him to seek medical treatment in India, the Czech Republic and, eventually, Egypt, he said. “My problem started with the Ministry of Education when it suspended my salary for four consecutive months without taking into account my illness, presence in a foreign country, and my need for treatment funds, as well as the condition of my 10-member family,” he complained.
He said he had submitted all medical reports to ministry officials to reconsider his case. Later, he was forced to sell his house to meet treatment expenses and, additionally, filed a retirement request for inability to work from the beginning of the new academic year (1435) until today due to being in Egypt seeking treatment.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Education in Aflaj said the teacher never submitted any medical reports in 1435. The ministry did receive his retirement request, which has been referred to the Medical Commission (King Saud Medical City) for review and action, sources said.
