JCCI plans to establish 62 civil centers for Umdas

The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and Jeddah police have formed a joint committee to develop the role of Umdas (district mayors) and complete the construction of their new headquarters.
The two sides made the decision during a meeting on Thursday which was attended by Masood Al-Adwani, provincial chief of police, and Mazen Batterjee, Vice Chairman of JCCI. The meeting was also attended by members of the JCCI board and the deputy secretary-general of the business sector, Mohiuddin Yahya bin Hakami.
The meeting planned to establish an additional 62 civil headquarters to enhance the Umdas’ role and activate their participation in different districts with the assistance of computer centers which will provide complete data on the people living in the districts in order to help solve their problems.
The headquarters will also help to keep an eye on the activities in the districts for the benefit of the police and responsible authorities, they said.
Al-Adwani said that the meeting comes within the framework of the continuous coordination between the JCCI and the police to serve the community, and work on those issues that need cooperation.
He said the focus right now is on establishing centers for Umdas, enhance their roles in the development, peace and security of the districts by resolving the problems of the inhabitants in these districts.
Al Adwani also praised the role of the JCCI and that of Saleh Kamil for providing ideas and initiatives in the service of the people of Jeddah. He noted that the JCCI in cooperation with the provincial police has already created four new civil headquarters to begin work, and is being coordinated through the Joint Committee to complete the construction of the rest according to the plan.
Batterjee said that the joint cooperation between the two sides comes in the framework of the implementation of the objectives of building strategic partnerships between the JCCI and government agencies, semi-government organizations and the private sector to overcome the challenges and for the development of business.
He said that the JCCI is waiting for the chamber’s statutory procedures to complete the construction of the new headquarters for Umdas which has been in the pipeline for some time now.
He added that the JCCI has completed four headquarters and will continue work to complete the project with an additional 62 headquarters in the coming months. “The idea will then be expanded to include Makkah and Taif,” he said.
