On Friday, a team from the Western Region medical transplant center worked in collaboration with the coordinators of the organ transplant section in Al-Thaghra hospital in Jeddah and successfully transplanted the organs of a brain-dead person to six patients in various regions across the Kingdom.
Dr. Nasser Al-Jihani, director of Al-Thaghra Hospital, comforted the family of the deceased and praised them for their humanitarian gesture in agreeing to donate the organs to save the lives of six patients in different regions of the Kingdom. The organs — the heart, lungs, kidney, liver, pancreas and cornea — were removed and immediately transplanted to other patients who are successfully recuperating.
The director praised the efforts of the Jeddah Health Directorate and the Saudi Center for Organ Transplant, which contributed to the process through its coordination and support of the organ transplantation. He thanked the staff of Al-Thaghra Hospital for their efforts.
Head of the medical transplant center in Al Thaghra Hospital Dr. Awateef Awaad said the organs were removed only after making sure that the patient was brain-dead through the mandatory tests.
