Customs thwart drug smugglers

JEDDAH: Saudi Customs officers have thwarted an attempt to smuggle close to half a million captagon tablets through the port of Duba on the northern Red Sea coast. The pills were concealed in the rear wheels of a truck on board a ship.
Duba Port’s Director General of Customs Ali Atwi praised the customs officers for having discovered 414,000 captagon tablets hidden in a truck on board a ship bringing cargo to the Kingdom.
“The customs officer was conducting a routine search when he found the pills hidden cleverly within the wheels. Prescribed actions were immediately taken,” said Atwi.
In addition, Atwi confirmed the vital role played by Saudi Customs in all land, sea and air entry points into the Kingdom. He said the officers were always alert and sought to prevent smuggling into the country.
The prevention of smuggling has led the Ministry of Interior and General Directorate for Drug Control to highlight the efforts of Saudi Customs in the periodic data issued by the ministry concerning its fight against drug traffickers and smugglers.
