JEDDAH: Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCC) signed Tuesday an agreement to train 500 youth in sports management.
Muhyiddin bin Yahya Hakami, deputy secretary general of the JCCI, signed the one-year agreement with Khamis bin Mohammed Al-Zahrani, head of the Khamis Al-Zahrani Star Union Sports Development Company.
Hakami said there would be workshops and lectures provided for students over the one-year period, with those completing receiving certificates. It would allow these young people to find jobs in the sports industry, he said.
He said the training would also give young people skills to start their own small and medium enterprises in the sector.
The business of sports was an important part of the JCCI. It has established a commission to invest in sports, and also supervise leagues for companies, he said.
He said the agreement is an opportunity to train entrepreneurs for sports projects and facilities’ management. Khamis Al-Zahrani Star Union Sports Development Company would provide added value to the chamber, he said.
He said the plan is to ensure that the youth play a significant role in promoting sports at companies, build channels of communication with specialists, and boost sports investment through corporate social responsibility programs.
Al-Zahrani said the wide range of skills taught would enable the young people to benefit the business sector. He said the aim is to develop people with top class sports administration skills.
