RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the offensive waged by Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's forces on the city of Aleppo as the number of civilian casualties mounted.
An official source at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the airstrikes, which has run for the ninth day Saturday, has led to the destruction of a hospital run by an international organization, killing dozens of people including children and doctors.
“This terrorist act ignores the cessation of hostilities agreement and is contrary to international laws and ethical principles of humanity, as it seeks to pre-empt international efforts to reach a political solution to the crisis and to prevent deliverance of humanitarian aid to Syrian brotherly people,” the official was quoted as saying in a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) late Friday.
The official said the criminal act “underlines the lack of seriousness, in responding to the demands of the international community and proved that he is not serious in moving in the ongoing talks to resolve the Syrian crisis peacefully, in accordance with the principles of the Geneva 1 and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Saudi Arabia also called on the international community and allies of Assad who have committed to the cessation of hostilities to take necessary measures to stop these attacks and crimes against the people of Syria
The United Nations has earlier called on Moscow and Washington to help restore the cease-fire to prevent the complete collapse of talks aimed at ending a conflict in which more than 250,000 people have been killed and millions displaced.
