Depending on how bones are originally built

Osteoporosis is a disease that results in decreased density and quality of bones. Loss of calcium makes bones fragile and breakable. Fractures caused by osteoporosis are more common in the hip, spine, and wrist.
Commenting on osteoporosis, Dr. Ihab Al-Zayat, Orthopedic specialist at the International Medical Center in Jeddah, said that certain factors could increase possibility for bone fractures, and should be avoided. Factors include unhealthy and imbalanced dietary, lack of milk and dairy products, which lead to calcium insufficiency, physical inactivity, smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of exposure to the sun, and lack of vitamin D, excessive consumption of soft drinks. In addition, certain diseases could increase the risk of developing osteoporosis, such as overactive thyroid, increased secretion of cortisol from parathyroid renal, rheumatic diseases.
Is early prevention against bone fractures a choice? Dr. Al-Zayat assured that this could be achieved by avoiding all the above, and adopting balanced healthy nutrition, sports, such as walking on daily basis, consuming milk and dairy products; those who cannot tolerate dairy products could take laktide or calcium tablets. They should have exposure to the sun on a daily basis or take vitamin D tablets, drops or injections, taking estrogen at an early menopause, quit smoking and soft drinks.
Commenting on how to build strong bones that protect one when gets old, Dr. Al-Zayat says that we should all try to achieve that, for our children and ourselves. Ideal bone building begins since we were just fetuses in the wombs by proper nutrition for the mother, who should take enough calcium (milk and its dairy products), exposure to the sun and healthy food. After birth, the same procedures should be applied.
To prevent bone weakening upon aging, Dr. Al-Zayat stated that it is inevitable to have some degree of weak bones at that age however, its intensity depends upon how our bones were originally built. If the bones were originally weak, they will get weaker and become easily breakable, but if we protect the bones, specially at the age of building them (from birth to 35 years of age), the bones will be more able to resist natural factors of decay. Deficiency of calcium, vitamin D, healthy nutrition and physical activity will quickly lead to bone deficiency.
Dr. Al-Zayat concluded by warning from factors that lead to bone fractures among elders, including falling, weak vision, sliding down in bathrooms or when washing feet in basins, which may result in loss of balance and eventually falling down.
