23 Jeddah flood suspects sentenced to 85 years

JEDDAH: An administrative court in Jeddah issued its verdict on Tuesday on 21 of 29 Jeddah floods cases and sentenced culprits to a total of 85 years in prison and more than SR 6 million in fines, press reports said.
“The sentences were issued against 23 suspects involved in crimes such as bribery, misuse of power and misusing public funds,” Al-Madinah said. The fines imposed on the culprits ranged between SR 10,000 and SR 1 million.
The paper pointed out that the culprits sentenced to one year to seven years in jail for their crimes. The court set free 10 suspects including businessmen, government employees and honorary members of a sports club.
The Jeddah floods that occurred about four years ago had killed more than 120 people and destroyed thousands of vehicles, buildings and houses in various parts of the city.
