The Administrative Court found five defendants in the Jeddah bribery trial guilty of bribery and abuse of power, and sentenced them to a total of 17 years in jail.
The defendants were also fined a total of SR 2 million.
The rain water drainage manager was sentenced seven years and fined SR 1 million. A businessman was sentenced three years and fined S R200,000. Another businessman was sentenced four years in jail and a SR 500,000.
A Jordanian and a Syrian, who were working for a contracting company, were sentenced to one year in jail and fined SR 100,000 and two years with a SR 200,000 respectively.
The court found three prominent businessmen, among them a Kuwaiti, not guilty. The judge said that verdicts came after long deliberation.
The first defendant, who had held senior positions, pleaded guilty of bribery. He was convicted of being given different amounts of money and a luxury car from the second defendant in return of facilitating the companies contracts and business, through the third defendant who was a project manager in the contracting company.
In addition, the first defendant confessed that he was given more than SR 600,000 in bribes from different defendants to facilitate their companies work in the municipality.
