This refers to the Arab News report, “Don’t be greedy, grand mufti tells merchants,” dated Jan. 27.
May God bless and give the best reward to the Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh who, while urging the merchants not to be greedy, has asked all traders to distance from fraud, cheating or manipulation of prices, because, as he rightly said, Shariah prohibits such behavior!
The grand mufti has pointed out that some businessmen deliberately import goods of poor quality and then sell them with a high profit margin without any fear of God, as we normally witness this in the market. It is must for them to be honest in their dealings with people.
Certainly, fraud is not an attribute of a true Muslim; cheating, fraud and speaking falsely are the evil things which are prohibited in Islam. We must always remember the concept of accountability on the Day of Judgment when everybody will be rewarded or punished according to one’s deeds and nobody will be spared on that day.
We sincerely thank the sheikh for his wonderful and significant Friday sermon. — Zakaria Sultan, Riyadh
