Jimmy Aragones and Malou Nidoy banked on a strong start during the two-game finals to cushion the impact of a determined final game charge from Mac Galang and Malou Gime and clinch the July 2012 championships of the Filipino Expatriate Damayan Bowling Group at the Bowling City here.
Aragones reached the overall championship when he eliminated Jay Bengco, Ferdie Coloma and Edward Botardo in the playoff and handed Class C top qualifier Danny Manriza a massive defeat 448-321 in two games.
The consistent Aragones hit strikes for a 243 to steer clear from class/group champions Melvin Lising (OA), Rene Punzalan (B) and Galang (D).
Lising, Punzalan and Galang advanced to finals by beating Faisal Relativo, Robert Stone and Nards Hassan during the battle for class/group superiority.
In the second and last game of the 4-bowler final race, Lising stunned Aragones with perfectly executed high precision blows in his 214.
Likewise, closest rival Galang stayed in the hunt with his spectacular spare conversions for a 204.
Aragones had to hit another string of strikes to turn back the challenges with a 224, as he emerged July men’s champion with a two-game series of 467.
Galang settled for first runner-up spot 424 with Lising (409) and Punzalan (348) in third and fourth.
In the ladies division, the road to the title for Nidoy was relatively smooth having been seeded to the finals by topping group AB with four-game handicap series of 760 along with archrival Gime who topped CD with 776 and group survivors Ester Santoc (AB) and Eloisa Fernandez (CD).
Santoc eliminated Alona Antinero, Lourdes Punzalan and Minda Guevara while Fernandez outlasted Evelyn Santoc, Christine Esperancilla and Grace Funtilon.
During the two-game finals, Nidoy carded 208 to lead by two marks over nearest pursuer and May titlist Gime who had a 192.
With Santoc and Fernandez silent, Nidoy kept trading marks with Gime in the last game that ended 183-178 to Nidoy, who was crowned FEDBG women’s champion for July with a two-game total of 391. Gime took second place on 370, Fernandez third and Santoc fourth. Sally Sañosa, Maricar Victorino, Shirley Sagmit, Letty Mendoza and Mariz Resano were the other lady bowlers that took part in the monthly contest.
