JEDDAH, 9 August - Indian Consul General Syed Akbaruddin will kick-off the inaugural match between Asian Soccer and Westar-ACC in the first division of the SIFF-SADAFCO Soccer 2001 at the Ministry of Education Stadium at 6 p.m. tomorrow. The annual league-cum-knockout tournament will feature 27 matches on 14 Fridays up to early November. Semifinal knockout rounds of the first and second divisions will be held on Oct. 19 and 26. Final matches in the two divisions will be played on Nov. 2. The tournament will end on Nov. 9 with an exhibition match between an Indian (SIFF) Eleven and the Rest, according to Saudi Indian Football Forum (SIFF) President K.P. Abdul Salam. Six teams figure in the first division - Asiana Yellow, Friends, Blue Star-A, Asian Soccer, Hyderabad XI and Westar-ACC. The second division has eight teams ? Malabar, ACC-B, Ryan Arts & Sports and Al-Rai Brothers in Group A, and Blue Star-B, International Indian School-Jeddah, Al-Salama Brothers and Novodaya in Group B. “Out of the 17 clubs affiliated to the SIFF, 14 are taking part in the championship this time,” Salam added.
