DAMMAM, 25 October — A galaxy of international stars will participate in the fifth Federation Cup open doubles badminton tournament beginning at the International Indian School here today.
This tournament is being organized by Badminton Federation of Saudi Arabia.
Seven top Indian players — Jaseel P. Ismail, Jaison Xavier, Aravind Bhut, Shiv Prakash, Thomas Kurien, Ajit Vijaythilak and Kingdom-based former Indian juniorplayer Suneet Sebestian, who is working in Jubail, are participating in this tournament, according to general secretary of the federation, George Puthen Madhom.
These players will also play singles.
Over 250 other players residing in the Kingdom are also taking part in this two-day tournament.
Last year former French Open champion Vimal Kumar and India’s No. 1 doubles player Vincent Lobo participated in the tournament.
Delmon, B.J. Services Saudi Arabia, Kanoo Group of Companies and Willis of Bahrain are sponsoring the event.
Earlier the singles tournament was played at Al-Huwaylat & Al-Fanateer sports complex in Jubail. Junior inter-school tournament was also held at IIS, Dammam.
