JEDDAH, 16 November — Sri Lankan International School here wore a festive look recently when it staged its annual sports meet. A number of children in various age groups took part in various sports events. Sri Lankan Consul General A.C.M. Ibrahim was the chief guest.
The highlight of the opening ceremony was a colorful drill by students. Adding color to the display was the coordinated movement by all participants.
The opening ceremony began with the lighting of the Olympic torch by the games captain and two house captains and all the participants taking the oath to remain a sport and show sportsman spirit.
The events included bunny hop, eating doughnuts, going to school, obstacle race and filling the basket. Track and field events, long jump and ball shooting were held prior to the meet. A friendly competitive spirit prevailed among the children.
Sports events were also held for staff and visitors as well. The crowd enjoyed the fancy dress competition in which children enthusiastically took part wearing dresses of an old lady, an astronaut and a fisherman. Tents of the school’s two houses were beautifully decorated.
Giving advice to the children were Principal S.A. Rahuman, past chairman of the board of school manager Lakshman Rupasinghe and the consul general. The concluding ceremony was marked by a march past by students and distribution of prizes by the consul general.
“The school emphasizes on the total development of the students and an event like this is definitely a positive step toward that goal,” a school management spokesman said.
