JEDDAH, 23 November — A fine bowling performance by skipper Nadir Ayzaz Toor of Pakistan International School (English Section) "A" was the feature of their triumphant end to the first Sana Sports International Inter-School Championship comprising of 4 schools last weekend. They defeated Al-Waha Int’l School by 35 runs in the final, which saw fortunes fluctuating often.
Hamid Raheed (P.E Teacher) organized the event to encourage the talented students under the patronage and support of Principal Mrs. Maher Afroz Afridi of P.I.S (E.S). Coaches of Al-Waha School (Fakhar Adnan), Parent Co-operative School (Abdul Qayyum) and Al-Wadi School (Qayyum Khan) were among the participants. Zahid Hussain Quraishi, manager of Sana Sports sponsored the tournament with co-sponsor Basamah Trading Co. (Goody Division).
Mrs. Maher Afroz Afridi was the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony held at the school’s assembly after the final match. She awarded the winning trophy, man-of-the-final and best bowler award to P.I.S (E.S) "A" captain Nadir Toor. Best batsman went to Yasir Nawas. Best fielder Faisal Mahmoud and best all-rounder to Imran Nasir.
Opting to bat first, PIS (ES) "A" scored 165 for 3 wickets in their allotted 16 overs. Opener Imran Nasir scored his second consecutive half century 66 runs off 44 balls with two sky-scrapper sixes and 7 stinging fours and Yasir Nawas half century 65 runs off 45 balls with 5 fours consolidated the innings after the losing opener Faisal Mahmoud cheaply. They added 120 runs for the second wicket partnership. Their innings of merit unleashed flurry of copybook and improvised strokes, which were a delight to watch. Nadir Toor chipped in with 30 not out. His three consecutive fours executed on the front foot were a treat to the eye. Farhan, Mobeen and Ali Ashraf picked up one wickets each for 35, 35 and 30 runs respectively.
In reply, Al-Waha openers Ali Ashraf-22 (3 fours) and Asad-15 wading into the PIS (ES) "A"attack with pleasure. The two added 43 runs in 4 overs. But with their exit in quick succession Farhan-22 and Abeed-16 batted well under difficult conditions and added 51 runs at the 5th wicket partnership. At this stage match seemed well in Al-Waha’s hand. But their efforts, however, failed to take the team to victory as they could reach 130 all out in their allotted 16 overs. Nadir Toor bowled deadly with controlled line and length and picked up 5 wickets for 22 runs included one hat trick. Ayman took 2 for 41 and Imran 3 for 20.
All participant thanks to Mrs. Maher Afroz Afridi for the support and encouragement to organize the tournament. Hamid Rasheed said I am confidant that under her able guidance and patronage school team will reach good heights in the forthcoming Arab News under-19 cricket tournament in Jeddah.
