Nilo, Split Converters are too classy for rivals

RIYADH, 30 November — Veteran Ramon Nilo, now back to his old form guided the Split Converters team keglers to post easy victory against one of the powerhouse teams, the SkyFreight Forwarders on the 6th week of the Giordano Fashions “Payanigan” Wednesday Regulated Bowling League at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.

The league is organized by the Overseas Filipino Workers Bowlers of Riyadh (OFWBR) in cooperation with the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center through its recreation manager, Mark Roberts and bowling supervisor, Romy Camonayan.

The Split Converters team coached by Rolly Manalang clobbered the SkyFreight Forwarders team captained by Larry Mondoy, 22-5. Ramon Nilo starred for Split Converters team as the Split Converters squad stamped their class on the SkyFreight Forwarders team although playing without ace bowlers in their line-ups. Nilo’s devastating form helped the Split Converters team to clinch their second team of the week award by snatching 22 points. At the four games, Nilo, classified as Class C player toppled a four game series handicap of 807 to vindicate himself as the week’s bowler of the week awardee. For his feat, Nilo will receive a Giordano T-shirt and SkyFreght 20 kgs Seafreight Cargo voucher through the courtesy of Jimmy Hugo, the branch manager. Aside from Nilo who delivered good games to the Split Converters came through the convincing performances of Marvin Arocena, Romy Matic, Dante Prado and Rolly Manalang. Arocena and Matic scored a separate four-game series of 768 and 716 while Prado and Manalang tallied a separate series of 705 and 688 in four matches.

The out-of-form SkyFreight Forwarders team keglers, submitting the best scores was Jun “wonder boy” Malana who carded a series of 715 in four outings. Rizal Dellosa posted 698 pinfalls in four games while Jimmy Medina sealed a series of 608 in three games. Lito Junio scored 521 in three matches while Atoy “kabo” Malubay and Reden Tulabut rolled a series of 498 and 487 in four games, respectively. The dismayed SkyFreight Forwarders keglers registered a disappointing total team output of 3527 points.

The balanced E-Banking squad piloted by Teody Zulaybar and Ely Reyes demolished the Calabarzon II team of Jimmy Ocampo. The E-Banking handed-out 20 points against 10 points scored by the Calabarzon II. Class D players Val Montalbo and Zulaybar are unstoppable when they powered the E-Banking team brilliant display of games against the Calabarzon II. Montalbo and Zulaybar poured a separate series of 783 and 753. The veteran and centennial player, Jun Manalili supported Montalbo and Zulaybar by contributing a series of 736 in four matches. Clem Guelas sparkled too to score a series of 695 in four games. Rex Famadico had 403 pinfalls in two games and Ely Reyes produced a series of 329 in two games.

The Pangasinan Strikers recorded 16-8 wins against the Wizard’s 23 and the troika of Pep “Medel” Maghinay, Mario Rosal and Joey Maningas led in the Pangasinan quintet. Maghinay scored 771 series in four games and Rosal and Maningas submitted a series of 743 and 713. Phol Grepo and Jojo Demetrio sizzled a series of 580 and 545 in three games.

Simon Montero flew high in the Wizard’s 23 team to be at helm by carding a four game series of 580. Next to Montero were teammates Boy Alvaran (553), team captain, Ernie Gonzales (522) and promising Mario Samson (517). Johnny de Asis added a series of 438 in three games while Remy Pantaleon and Emil Rances downed a series of 365 and 345 in two games.

On lanes 1 and 2, the Coolebraz team dubbed as the giantkiller upset the heavy favorites Bankeros Atbp. 13-5. Lifting the Coolebraz outstanding victory against the Bankeros Atbp came through the fantastic games of team captain, Donjie Mapalad who shot a four game series handicap of 789 pinfalls. The small but terrible, Raul Medina excelled to came-in next to Mapalad by carding a series of 718. Romy Liggayu seared the lanes to score a series of 658 in four games while the debuting Benjie Marfil submitted 503 series in three sets.

Topscoring in the Bankeros Atbp team was the bankable Aloy Mier who fired a series of 726 in four games. Usman Navarro and Jun Envangelista pocketed a series of 683 and 682 in four games. James Frizzle and Willy Pamilaran rolled 495 and 461 series in two games and Romy Cruz toppled 303 in two outings.

In another fashion, the Game Ka Na Ba and the Calabarzon I defeated their respective rivals, the Scorpions II and the Sunrise. The Game Ka Na Ba snatched 16 points while the Scorpions recorded 8 points. Calabarzon I got 8 points while the Sunrise (formerly the defunct TFC team) had 7 points. Leading scorers in the Game Ka Na Ba are Rene Tanglao (790) and Malco Muyco (757). For the Calabarzon I on top was Bobby Sajulan with 737, followed by Rod Basilio (691), Rene Caseda (661), Edu Mercado (647) and Ed Bautista (641).
