Scorpions II and De Luna share top honors

Riyadh, 7 December — The Scorpions II bowling team piloted by Boy Bartolome and the unheralded Jomarie de Luna, wearing the jerseys of the Split Converters team captained by Rolly Manalang impressed the spectators by clinching the team of the week and the bowler of the week awards, respectively on the 7th week of the Giordano/OFWBR “Payanigan” today Bowling League at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.

The Scorpions fiery performances stopped the Sunrise (formerly the defunct The Filipino Channel (TFC captained by Joel Magpantay) by collecting 19 points against 5 points garnered by the Sunrise. Joel Alegre of the Scorpions team was a big revealation as he powered the Scorpions team to emerge as the week’s best team. Alegre, who works at the Philippine Embassy exploded a convincing four game series of 829. Also in the bowling spotlight in the Scorpions team were the trios of Jun Ego and Boy Bartolome who toppled a separate four game series of 731 and 701. Jolly dela Torre dazzled to submit a series of 545 in three outings.

Ed “turbo” Acosedo posted an output of 734 in four games to lead in the Sunrise team captained by Eden Bergonio. Bergonio was next points receiver by tallying a series of 646 in four matches. Debuting Elmer Aquino carded 511 series in three outings while Ahmed Zeptawi and Louie Leguarda scored a series of 460 and 448 in three sets.

The Game Ka Na Ba team hammered the Wizard’s 23 team of Ernie Gonzales (17-8). Leading scorers in the Game Ka Na Ba are Eymard Dimayuga and Malco Muyco who shot a series of 764 and 725 in four matches. Fred Zacarias was next with a series of 652 in four games. Arnel Gordovez toppled 552 series while team captain Rene Tanglao submitted a series of 403 in two games. Jell Tan downed a series of 305 in two games. The Game Ka Na Ba climbed-up the ladder to occupy the second topmost position.

For the Wizard’s 23 team, grabbing the limelight was Ernie Gonzales who fired a convincing four game series of 774. Boy Alvaran and Mario Samson came-in next with a series of 762 and 705. Remy Pantaleon, Roel Toledo and Emil Rances rolled a separate two game series of 316, 311 and 301. The Ariba-Arabia made history when they humiliated the powerhouse Calabarzon II (17-5). Noel Morales, Vher de Castro and Manny Tuzon colored the lanes red to be on top by posting a separate four game series of 774, 738 and 718. Fastrising Benjie Bangug dazzled to score a series of 681 in four outings. Leo Agote rolled 343 series in two games. The Ariba-Arabia team is captained by Mario Reyes.

Submitting the best scores in the Calabarzon II squad is the duo of Jene Canlas and Rey Dela who toppled a four game series of 708 and 701. Pido Villarosa and Jimmy Ocampo produced a series of 537 and 524 in three games. Newcomer to the team, Ellen Bernabe shot a series of 324 and Fred Lim scored 304. The Split Converters recorded another impressive wins over the Coolebraz (15-9) and topscoring in the Split Converters was the bowler of the week awardee, Jomarie de Luna who carded a four game series of 856. The versatile Dante “cheeney” Prado was next to Jomarie with a series of 679 points in four games. Joe Concepcion and Marvin Arocena and team captain Rolly Manalang submitted a series of 657, 646 and 561. The promising Romy Liggayu stopped 745 series in four games to be on top in the Coolebraz squad. Raul Medina contributed a series of 689. Team captain Donjie Mapalad downed 664 series and Chris Tolosa and Val Marcelino compiled a series of 644 and 632.

Finally, the SkyFreight Forwarders ended their draught for victory when they humbled the league leader, the E-Banking (14-4). SkyFreight’s team captain Larry Mondoy, Oca Bernabe and Reden Tulabut seared the lanes to post a series of 737, 708 and 700 in four matches. Teammates Arnel Crizalod, Atoy Malubay and Jimmy Medina added a series of 550, 526 and 307;

The veteran Jun Manalili, the little-known Val Montalbo and Ed Sy led in the E-Banking by carding a series of 784, 693 and 680. Clem Guelas rolled 468 pinfalls in three sets. Ely Reyes and Rex Famadico downed a series of 339 and 316 in two games.

The Pin Heads team of Egai Asuncion defeated the Calabarzon I and on top in the Pin Heads team was the energetic Asuncion with 728, followed by Rene Clemente (689), Noel Marquez (673) and Ric Urrutia, Sr. (663). At helm in the Calabarzon I was the youtful DJ Ocampo with 771. Jing Sahagun followed with 718 and Rod Basilio (709).
