RIYADH, 28 December — The "Pasiklaban" One-Day Bowling tournament organized by the Overseas Filipino Workers Bowlers of Riyadh (OFWBR) is set to start on Jan. 3, at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.
The One-Day Bowlfest is supported by the Trans Middle East Electronics and Home Appliances Division through its general manager, Atah.
The Trans Middle East Electronics is the sole distributor of OMNIA entertainment showcase, i.e. television set, refrigerator, washing machine, food processor, rice cooker, microwave oven and other home appliances.
In the format, the participants will play a six-game series with handicap in the qualifying round to determine the Top 6 finishers. Handicaps are as follows: Class A-0, Class B-4 , Class C-8 and Class D-12. Female bowlers will be given a twenty (20) handicaps per game.
The top 6 players after the qualifying round will advance to the stepladder match final via knockout system. The top six players will play a one-game series with handicap to determine the winners and the losers.
The challenger and the top finisher will play a one-game series with handicap to determine the champion. The first match in the stepladder final via knockout system will be between finishers number 6, 5 and 4.
Winner in this match will play another one-game series with handicap against the finishers number 3 and 2. Winner in this match will play another one-game series with handicap with the top finisher to determine the champion. Runners-up will be ranked as per their final standings in the finals.
The entry fee is SR100 and the tournament is open to all male and female bowlers irrespective of their classification and nationality.
If the tournament will register more than 40 entries, the OMNIA entertainment showcase prizes will be awarded to the champion and runners-up. In the event the tourney will have less than 40 entries, the electronics items at stake will not be awarded. Instead, a cash prize will be awarded to the winners and the cash prize will be computed based on the total number of the participants.
Meanwhile, the Overseas Filipino Workers Bowlers of Riyadh (OFWBR) will send a six strong teams that will participate in the prestigious 2002 Hajj Goodwill Games bowling tournament hosted and organized by the Filipino Bowlers, Eastern Region (Filbowlers) through its president, Boy Tuazon and secretary-general, Jun Canar. Aside from OFWBR who has been invited to participate in the 2002 Hajj Goodwill Games are the Filipino Overseas Bowlers of Riyadh (FOBR) under the chairmanship of Boy Fogata, the Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah under the leadership of its president, Rally Zamora, the Brotherhood Bowling Group of Arnold Alday, the Riyadh 500 Bowlers of Dante Prado and the Abha/Khamis Mushait Filipino Bowlers headed by Vher Crisostomo. The games will be held on Feb. 22, 23 and 24, 2002 at the Algosaibi Hotel Bowling Center, Alkhobar, Saudi Arabia.
The registration time will start at 7:15 in the evening and shadow bowl will commence at 7:45 p.m. Roll-off will start at 8:00 in the evening.
