JEDDAH, 4 January — The 24th week at the BBG Tuesday Night League organized by the Brotherhood Bowling Group (BBG) here at the Jeddah Bowling Center produced an exciting finishes punctuated by strength and power play.
The Falcons, captained by Danny Bautista and managed by Ed Labuac, flew away the team of the week award by edging out by merely half of a point the powerhouse Al Alamiah Insektos and one point over the equally strong Abudawood Trading and Internet At Kape. The Falcons clawed the distinction at the score of 73.5 points. The "insektos" posted 73 while Abudawood and Internet tallied at 72 points each.
In the individual category, the experienced Class "O" bowler Goying Salazar of Internet At Kape went classy as he braved the challenges of his contemporaries. From a spare at the start of the second game after a high pocket hit, Salazar unleashed his sterling shots and fired 11 consecutive strikes for an almost perfect game of 290. With four strikes on the final game (221) and six strikes at the beginning (235), Salazar snatched the bowler of the week award at a total score of 746 pins.
Sarawat Aces would have won the plum for the highest honors in the team category. They posted a running score of 42 points as of the second game when "Aces" Igna Salgado, Odjie Sagcal, Jun Cabral and team captain Rally Zamora snatched the maximum 22 points on game one and 20 points on game two.
Salgado (258), Sagcal (219), Cabral (220) and team captain Zamora (254) set JBC afire on game one, blasted the lanes with a series of strikes and scored 984 pins including handicap. Although they missed to erased the current record in the high game scratch (953), the outstanding performances of the quartet knocked down by three pins the 981 record of Al Ahadal Establishment in the high game with handicap and replaced it with 984.
Zamora (233) and Salgado (210) played heroics on the second game and brought their total to 852 for 20 points. Although Sarawat earned a rank-bonus of 22 points for sweeping 2606 in three games, their low performances on the final set (5 points) pulled them out of contention.
The Falcons were also soaring high in a separate pair of lanes, clawed 21 points when team manager Ed Labuac (235), Bonnie Garcia (203), Ding Abaygar (197) and team captain Danny Bautista (213) swiped 899 including handicap.
Labuac met walls of splits on the second game (153) but the triumvirate of Abaygar, Bautista and Garcia managed to contain the slump and brought their total to 812 and shared the points with Otra Cosa at 14.5 apiece.
On the final bend, Bautista led The Falcons in their quest for the top award, shot eight strikes for a whooping 256. Labuac found the right spot anew, rolled off 215 while Garcia (183) and Abaygar (166) provided the nececessary assists and scaled their game to a new high (17 points). The Falcons were awarded with 21 rank points for posting a total of 2583.
Seiko joined the wagon of contenders when the clock stopped for 20 points through the precise pendulum swings of bowlers Danny Guela (257) and Obie Ycasas (233), who brought their output to 883. Their energy went low on the second game that the hands failed to point at the right spot, scored 11 (808 pins) and only 9 on the final set (797).
MBC hopped into the cart by securing 19 points after the foursome of Jess Pineda (233), Dante Calapatia (222), Benjie Cils (195) and Angel Decena (191) swept a total of 877. On the second game, however, Calapatia (138) and Cils (168) bogged down after meeting enormous number of splits. The team earned a dismal 3 points and was way far behind for contention.
Abudawood Trading was just in a striking distance, with the pair of Hero Garcia (246) and Felix Julaton (222) briskly trading on the floor (870 pins) equivalent to 18 points. On the penultimate set, the trading went bullish, registered 21 points (866) on the table and brought their running earnings to 39 points. At the final hours, Julaton failed to maintain his momentum, shot a low 157 after meeting couples of splits. Julatonís low game pulled the team down for 13 points. Abudawood got 20 rank points (2572) and when the bourse was closed, they came short for the honors by 1.5 points.
After scoring 13 points (811) at the beginning, Al Alamiah hastened their pace. On the second game the quartet of Nonie Yap, Hashim Guinomla, BBG honcho Arnold C. Alday and Sid Lapena toppled down 851 pins valued at 19 points. They bombarded lanes 5 and 6 with unprecedented strikes and converted incredible spares on the last game, swarmed the field for the maximum 22 points (907 pins). The quartet submitted 73 points on the table including the 19 rank points, short by one point to snatch the teamís plum. Their strong finish, however, anchored Al Alamiah on the pole position and remained the leader of the pack of 22 powerhouse teams.
Internet At Kape was also a slow starter. Their first match against the equally strong Sarawat Aces only scored 11 points (783) in spite of the high 235 game of Goying Salazar. On the second set, Ador Torres (157) and Alex Guinto (166) were way below their average games but with the almost perfect score (290) of Salazar and the 223 of Roger Dacquioag, Internet was able to snatch the maximum (22) points on the final game. Torres found the right spot (222), Guinto managed to adjust by one board and hit 201 while Salazar (221) and Dacquioag (214) maintained the rythym of their swing. Internet swiped 895 pins (21 points). Their strong finish was just enough to collect 2551 pins for 18 rank points.
In other results, Sky Freight Forwarders scored 67 points against Guess? team (51). Seiko swept 56 points while PICPA-PRO was credited with 32. Al Ahadal collected 50 points in their match against Al Alamiah. KKB outscored Otra Cosa and their match submitted the scores of 48-34.5. Saudi Diyar Consultants edged out MBC by 4 points (47-43).
This week, Goying Salazar received his confirmation as an official member of the BBG Elite Bowlers Club when he submitted his fifth card at a score of 290. He was the third bowler to join the prestigious Club. The first bowler to receive his confirmation from the exclusive Club was Hashim Guinomla of the Al Alamiah Insektos. Tariq Al Twairib of Al Ahadal Establishment was the second.
Danny Bautista of The Falcons team submitted his third card at 256. Danny Guela of Seiko and Igna Salgado of Sarawat Aces passed their second card at 257 and 258, respectively. Rey Beltran of the Al Ahadal Establishment has just submitted his first entry at a score of 255.
