JEDDAH, 8 January — People who have traveled the world and have learned to appreciate the better things in life, would all agree that the best crepe can be found in Switzerland.
Lucky for you, Crep’or, the Swiss chain, attempts to bring you some of that awesome Swiss taste. Don’t get too excited; I didn’t use the word "attempts" for nothing.
I’ve been to Crep’or on several different occasions and I’ve noticed that its crepe is as unpredictable as the English weather. You can never count on it’s tasting the same. The first one I had I found absolutely delightful. I ordered chocolate crepe with vanilla ice cream on the side and it was mouth-watering. It smelled as wonderful as it tasted. It would certainly take a man to fight that sort of temptation.
Luckily for me, I am a woman. My chocolate crepe was light and crispy but not too crispy. It was softer in the middle and crispier on the edges. I thought it was perfect. The chocolate was completely sensual. It overwhelmed me with feelings of satisfaction and pleasure. I was in love with my chocolate crepe.
Sadly though, I returned to the scene of the crime. This time it was different. It just lacked that special ingredient that made it out of this world; instead it was just a nice crepe. I was incredibly disappointed. The crepe was too thin and crispy. It broke into a million little pieces along with my heart.
Weeks had passed and I couldn’t get over loosing my love and so I went back to Jeddah Mall, wanting to find that old feeling of utter satisfaction. I succeeded in finding that old crepe I once knew. I also got to try many other flavors and kinds. I had crepe with strawberry jam, crepe with sugar and cinnamon, banana and honey and crepe with spinach. I recommend the strawberry, sugar and cinnamon as well.
The spinach was fantastic. I wouldn’t recommend the banana because it was too rich and soggy. I even had crepe with cheese and tomatoes. Now that was a disappointment. They had small pieces of fresh tomatoes and they were annoying. They tasted uncooked. I would have much preferred that they cook the tomatoes or make them into a sauce. I had a much better cheese and tomato crepe at a place called Caramel. They call it Margherita and it tastes very similar to a pizza.
Anyway, I didn’t need to taste all those different kinds to discover my true love; I knew what my true love was the moment I first laid eyes on it — chocolate. I needed to try all those other ones though because well — it’s my job. In conclusion, Crep’or serves delicious crepe most of the time. It depends mainly on your luck, I guess.
