RIYADH, 18 January — Four of the 10-man Paradise Catering team scored double figures and silenced Yamaha Al-Dawliah 99-86 in the game one of the RBL basketball tournament held at the Al Yamamah Hotel, old airport road. D. Almario the best player of the game scored 13 of his 29-point output in the third quarter and spearheaded the Paradise Catering by producing 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Coach R. Patacnan has concentrated his offense in its first five and a lone support from the bench. E. Abellana has also been productive by producing 23 points and 5 assists for the game. Yamaha Al-Dawliah put up strong opposition to the Paradise catering scoring machine.
Manigbas, De Leon and Baybay reached double-digit scores and were down by 3 points in the first quarter of the game and five points at the half. The third quarter was characterized by the tough defense by both teams but the main factor in the Paradise’s victory was the proper rotation of the ball and prolific assists department. Late in third quarter Yamaha succumb to the offense based strategy of coach Patacnan that sent key players of Yamaha to foul troubles. Manigbas the veteran who trouble scored 12 of his 25 point output in the last quarter of the game top-scored Yamaha Al-Dawliah 25 points and backed by De Leon and Baybay who pump-in 22 and 11 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Metro Star Cargo wins over Al Munajem, 91-79 Metro Star contained Munajem by dominating the board and lots of steals in the game. Zabala and the Mighty Maquilan led Metro Star into a convincing victory by scoring 24 points each. Zabala made 12 points in the last quarter of the game, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Maquilan added 2 rebounds 3 assists and five steals and Nawaf ‘Michael J’ scored his career-high in the conference. Four of its six-man team score double figures and assured them of the victory.
Though coach Zamora’s guys received ample support from the bench they failed to stop the Metro Star’s consistency in the assist department and dominance of the board. In the early quarter of the game Al Munajem is down by seven points and went back to cut the lead to 5 point at the half. But the cargo movers were so coherent that steals are easily converted. Zabala is the best player of the game.
