RIYADH, 1 February — YBA Kanoo Central Province inter-division softball cricket tournament got off to a fine start at Kanoo cricket grounds with Accounts Division winning their opening match against Joint Ventures. Winning the toss and electing to field, Accounts bundled out Joint Ventures for just 57 runs. Only Sudesh offered some resistance to Accounts bowling and remained not out on 24. For Accounts Hariprasad took 3 for 10 while Kirithnan took 2 for 11. Chasing the target, Accounts romped home in 15.3 overs losing 8 wickets on way. Amjad, Zainuddin, Muhammad Unni and Sudesh took 2 wickets each conceding 10, 17, 24, 7 runs respectively.
In the afternoon match, Travel Division got the better of Services/Cargo by 34 runs. Travel Division scored 90 runs in their allotted 16 overs while batting first after winning the toss. Madhu was top scorer for Travel Division with 36 runs.
Successful bowlers for Services/Cargo were Adil with figures of 3 for 30 and Gopi 2 for 20. In reply, Services/Cargo were all out for 56 runs. Travel Division’s Syed Zakiuddin was the most successful bowler with 3 for 18. Furqan 2 for 4 and Riju 2 for 23 were also amongst the wickets for Travel Division.
Total five teams are taking part in this two-month long Central Province YBA Kanoo inter-division softball cricket tournament. The fifth team is Combined XI.
Each team will play twice in the round-robin league and top two teams will view for finals. In addition to Norwich Union Insurance the tournament is co-sponsored by Gulf Air, Air India and KLM.
