RIYADH, 8 February — D’Hunks’ Jing Sahagun and Ellen Bernabe caught the eye of the spectators when they shared awards by clinching the Team of the Week and the Bowler of the Week awards on the blockbuster opening day of the OFWBR "Paistaran" Monday Regulated Bowling League at the Riyadh InterContinental Hotel Bowling Center.
D’Hunks, captained by Rod Basilio, romped away with the coveted Team of the Week honor when they humbled the Ultra team keglers of Art Esguerra (20-8). Basilio cornered the bowling limelight in the D’Hunks team by exploding a remarkable four-game series of 790 pinfalls. The boyish Marvin Arocena and the fast-rising Jomari de Luna seared the lanes to follow Basilio by carding a separate series of 789 and 748. Dick Montano burned the lanes to contribute a series of 668 in four outings while Gil Santos added 414 points in two matches. Joel Alegre chipped-in 327 points in two matches.
Submitting good scores in the Ultra team is the duo of Jimmy Ocampo and Resty de Jesus who toppled a series of 790 and 738 in four games, respectively. Jene Canlas and Boy Zapanta scored a series of 660 and 647 in four games while Willie Pamilaran and Jun "jaja" Jabonero posted a series of 390 and 347 in two sets. The Ultra collected total team output of 3571 pinfalls.
The Adrenalin bowling team of Rizal Dellosa, who lost the team of the week award to D’Hunks through the overall total team output brushed aside the Alleygators by snatching 20 big points against 11 points registered by Alleygators. Star of the show, Jing Sahagun flew high to topscore in the Adrenalin by posting a convincing four-game series of 839. Efren "dulce" Abuyo sizzled to share limelight with Sahagun by tallying a series of 778 in four games. Dellosa capitalizing on his 14 handicaps sparkled a series of 693 in four games. Phol Grepo, Rita Sison, Henry Sonias and Rollie Cleofe poured in a separate two game series of 373, 338, 346 and 310.
Corning spotlight in the Alleygators team is the tandem of JR Bagon and Rolly Manalang who fired a series of 767 and 745 in four games. Clem Salazar pocketed 699 points in four sets while Cesar de Mesa and Sonny Legaspi knocked-down a series of 560 and 503 in three outings. Joe Concepcion rolled a series of 388 in two games with a high game of 203.
Ang "Ajax" team piloted by AJ Bonifacio recorded an impressive 19-10 victory against the TJ & Co. team of Louie Agtarap. The devastating form of Bonifacio powered the Ang Ajax team an astounding victory over the TJ & Co. by exploding a series of 782 in four games. The prolifics Ben Carriaga and Fred Tejado dazzled to post a separate series of 599 and 566. Gil Hembra submitted 503 series in three matches and Yusuf Fernandez sealed a series of 498 in three sets while Rommel Agbayani downed 397 points in two matches.
For the TJ & Co. topscoring was Tony Jeminea with a series of 792 and coming-in next was Agtarap with 728 pinfalls. Nestor Lantama pinned-down a series of 707 in three games. Jane Guiang garnered a series of 527 in three sets and Fred Buenaventura had 337 series in two games. Nestor Zara stole 316 series in two games.
The Maros Bowlers of Mario Rosal and Pep Maghinay dismantled the fancied Black Phyton team (17-7) and scoring well in the Maros quintet are Pat "Fatima" Raz (770) and Ed "lastikman" Sy (738). Yuli Braganza and Maghinay combined for 1353 points (688 and 665). Joey "jellay" Maningas pumped-in 551 series in three games.
The debuting Black Phyton team captained by Virgie Miranda collected overall total team output of 3438 through the heroics of Cris Crisostomo (825) and Larry Leyva (764). Ian Villanueva shared 665 series in four games while Raul Patawaran scored a series of 505 in three games.
In another fashion, the Mission X team of Larry Mondoy nipped D’Bros. Ltd. of Benny Quebral (15-10). Bowler of the week honoree, Ellen Bernabe led in the Mission X by posting a four-game series of 806. Abdulrahman Jose and Mondoy followed Bernabe by adding a separate four game series of 690 and 633. Eden Bergonio, Atoy Malubay and Oca Bernabe registered a two game series of 359, 356 and 349.
Leading scorers in D’Bros. Ltd. are Wilson Bacala and Dave Pare who toppled a series of 694 and 682. Ed Rodriguez had 601 series in three outings while Cris Ibarra scored 552 series. Sammy Sahagun and Quebral tallied a series of 371 and 319.
The Unicap bowling team managed by Unicap chairman, Art Basilio Capulong rolled past the ABB All-Stars (13-6) and the man of the hour in the Unicap team Ramil Espiritu with a four game series of 764. Gayner Elias, Benjie Macatuno and Capulong supported Espirity by contributing a series of 578, 561 and 514 in three games. Mario Baylon pocketed a series of 445 in three games.
ABB All Stars assistant team captain was Ariel Feliciano was at helm with a four game series of 668. Jun Bago and Mel Solas followed with 547 and 537 series in three sets. Glenn Espiritu and Edwin Batham had a series of 343 and 315 in two games.
The OFWBR "Paistaran" Monday Regulated Mixed Bowling League are sponsored by the LG Electronics, Philippine Airlines, SkyFreight Forwarders and the Philippine National Bank (PNB). A total of 15 teams are participating in this star-studded bowling league which drew a huge crowd on the opening day.
