DUBAI, 19 February — Four Emirates passengers have each won a luxury holiday for four in an in-flight competition to boost awareness of Dubai Shopping Festival 2002 (DSF 2002) set from March 1 to 31. The first winners are Prasanna of India and Penelope Cook of Australia who both won a holiday in the first draw; Regina Pfeiffer of Germany and Ismail Ebrahim of South Africa who won in the second draw. The prizes each consist of four Emirates economy return tickets from any of its destinations to Dubai and a five-night holiday at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa for four. In addition, the winners will receive meet and assist on arrival by Arabian Adventures, transfers between airport and hotel by chauffeur-driven car, and an Arabian Adventures sightseeing tour and desert safari. The competition is ongoing until the end of February. Passengers traveling between now and then can enter by filling in a form placed in each seat pocket. One winner of a free family holiday will be drawn each week. All names will be entered for a grand draw to win four Emirates business class return tickets from any of its destinations to Dubai and a seven-night stay for four in a Tower Suite at Le Royal Meridien Beach Resort and Spa. In addition to meet and assist, transfers by chauffeured car and sightseeing tour and safari, the winner of the grand prize will receive a holiday credit of $5,000 toward the cost of any Emirates Holidays package. The Emirates DSF In-flight Competition has been designed to raise awareness of the DSF and the Emirates Holidays packages. The packages provide Emirates customers with a choice of 14 selected Emirates Holidays-approved properties to suit all pockets. Meanwhile, Abdullah Tawakul, Emirates regional manager for Saudi Arabia, said the airline, a key sponsor of DSF from the start, will provide tickets worth one million dirhams to the festival’s organizers. “Last year, the DSF drew three million visitors. This year, we are determined to help make the event bigger and better than ever. We intend to really roll out the red carpet to tempt visitors, who may still be a little unsure about international travel, to come to one of the world’s safest and most welcoming destinations,” Tawakul said. All Emirates aircraft will carry decals of the DSF logo on their fuselage, highlighting the event at 56 airports in 39 countries, he pointed out. Emirates currently operates 11 flights a week from Saudi Arabia to Dubai — five from Jeddah and three each from Riyadh and Dammam. Getting away from it all is the message Skywards is sending across the Internet as it launches its new exciting and humorous online advertising campaign, using innovative Eyeblaster technology. Skywards, the frequent flyer program of Emirates and SriLankan Airlines, is promoting its rewards of free flights for members, with the striking seven-week campaign. Andy Patton, Skywards’ product development and marketing manager, said: “We decided to launch the ad campaign during the first quarter of the year as it’s traditionally the time when all of us start thinking about getting away.”
