JEDDAH, 22 March — The winners and outstanding performers in the JCL Fuchs League cricket competition were honored at a glittering function at the Lasani restaurant here recently.
The trophies and prizes were given away by chief guest Mumtaz Ahmad Jamil, vice president of Alhamrani-Fuchs Petroleum, Saudi Arabia. The chief guest praised the JCL which, under the guidance of its hard-working president Shahid Amin, has been doing laudable service in popularizing and promoting the game of cricket and now had 52 clubs affiliated to it.
In addition, the JCL has 22 school teams, which makes it the biggest cricketing body in the Kingdom and one of the biggest anywhere in the world.
Mumtaz Ahmad Jamil also praised the city’s newspapers for providing excellent coverage to JCL’s tournaments.
Shahid Amin thanked Fuchs for their cotinuous support for the last 13 years and announced that Fuchs had agreed to continue its sponsorship of the JCL League.
Earlier, JCL Executive Committee member Abdur Rahman Merchant traced the history of the Fuchs League over the years.
The function started with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Rabi Zubair, a talented and gifted young cricketer.
Compere Majeedul Hassan had the gathering in splits with his Yorkshire cricket jokes as he skilfully conducted the proceedings.
The function was well attended by sponsors, officials, cricketers and guests, prominent among whom was Anwar Hussain, manager of Fuchs president’s office.
