RIYADH, 22 March — Andy Borja and the Calabarzon II captained by Jimmy Ocampo emerged as the best bowler and the best team awardees in the ongoing Giordano Fashions “Payanigan” Wednesday Regulated Bowing League, which in its 18th week, at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Center.
The Calabarzon II squad gave an excellent performance to beat the Wizard’s 23 to seal 22 points to romp away with the coveted best Team of the week awards. Bobby Jamora secured the outcome for Calabarzon II who move to top of the table with 238 points, ahead of the previous leader, the Pangasinan Strikers on points difference (232). Calabarzon’s player highly contributed to the team’s victory with their brilliant piece-setting and remarkable pace. The contribution Ocampo, Jess Bersamin, Jene Canlas and Rey Dela came in the penultimate game by carding a separate four game series of 798, 783, 754 and 706. Calabarzon II tallied overall total team output of 3845 pinfalls.
Any Borja playing with the Game Ka Na Ba team of Rene Tanglao snatched the Giordano Bowler of the Week award by carding a four game series handicap of 803.
The Wizard’s 23 engineered by Ernie Gonzales and holding the seventh position in the team standings submitted overall total team output of 3652 and sealed 10 points. Gonzales attributed the best series of 759 in four games. Mon Montero, Emil Rances and Johnny de Asis, likewise added a series of 752, 735 and 709. Mar Samson had 388 series in two matches.
The Pangasinan Strikers team mentored by Yuli Braganza recorded another impressive win over the Ariba-Arabia (18-11) to maintain their standing on second topmost position. Submitting the best series in the Pangasinan were Pep Maghinay (788), ace Vher Cayago (776), and Cris Crisostomo (748). Joey Maningas toppled 572 series in three games and Mario Rosal had 495 series in three sets. Pat Raz scored 331 points in two games.
For the Ariba-Arabia, having the best series toppled were Manny Balanque (775), the fastrising Benjie Bangug (762) and Noel Morales (703). Manny Tuzon rolled 532 in three games and Leo Agote garnered a series of 376 in two games.
The Coolebraz team of Donjie Mapalad walloped the undermanned Calabarzon I (18-0) and topscoring in the Coolebraz were Chris Tolosa (762), the bouyish Larry Manalo (712) and Ace Sulit (706). Romy Liggayu seared the lanes to score a series of 658 in four matches. Almer Cabangon had 336 series in two games.
Rod Basilio led in the Calabarzon I with 743 pinfalls in four games followed by Jing Sahagun (711), and Ed Bautista (673). Edu Mercado carded a two game series of 283.
