RIYADH, 5 April — Al Bustan Concrete Mix, PSCC\Luzviminda, Al Habib Medical Center & Sultan Sonics entered semifinals in Military Hospital Basketball Association and NaRS a Professional Group of Filipino Nurses in KSA, All Filipino Basketball Winter Cup 2002, currently held in Riyadh Sheraton Hotel & Towers basketball court.

Al Bustan Readymix and concrete team managed by Ramir Mariano trouncing Al Habib Medical Center putting them to a 4-0 win loss standings. Al Bustan started slow in scoring registering first basket by Fajardo after almost 3 minutes of first quarter, Al Habib Medical Center started 8-2 run from the beginning but was outscored by Al Bustan 10-0 the next five minutes leading the first quarter with a 16-12 at buzzer end. Robert Carreon buried a triple jumper, Fajardo, Vergara, Farval, Capati, head coach, Alex Dalisay equally contributed for Al Bustan team with a 42-28 score at second quarter buzzer end, however, Al Habib Medical Center regrouped and aggressively played with instructions from head coach, Lafayette Caliolio and Nonoy Francisco closely inching gap a 55-47 score at the end of third quarter.

Rifleman, Danny Bugayong contributed 26 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 assists. The Iron Man Rommel Galivo, added 10 points, and 10 rebounds, at the end of the fourth quarter, Al Habib Medical Center loss to Al Bustan team at final buzzer with a 82-64 score in favor of Al Bustan Mixer. Best player of the game awarded to Fajardo of Al Bustan with a gift certificate from Al Mohr cargo managers Roel Langit, and Jorge Manalansan.

The finale battle of leaders in the closing of the elimination round was contested by Prince Sultan Cardiac Center/Luzviminda Speed Sports managed by Roger Bajentong and playing coach Noriel Navarro and Al Bustan team was won by PSCC/Luzviminda resulting in a 5-0 win-loss record and Al Bustan Ready Mix Concrete team with a 4-1 win-loss record.

Both team showed rugged defense and motion offense whereas Al Bustan fought a seesaw battle with PSCC/Luzviminda team with a 25-24 score. Due to the combined effort of Capati, Fajardo, Farnal, Aznar and Dilao. However, PSCC/Luzviminda team never gave up and employed a running offense with a fine fast-break plays by Jay Noble, Tony Astrologo, Jun Reyes, & Fabuna resulting with 49 deadlock at the end of the second quarter. Noble, Astrologo, both scored two triple jumper each. Coach, R. Navarro of PSCC/Luzviminda shuffled his men regularly during the third quarter getting the upper hand at the closing of the third quarter with their running game, fast-break and perimeter shooting of Jun Reyes, Noble, Cano, and Tony Astrologo all, buried a triple jumper each coupled with perimeter shooting with a score of 71-65 at the end of the third quarter.

At the start of the fourth quarter, coach Alex Dalisay played trapping, man-to-man defense which rattled the offense of PSCC/Luzviminda Team. With 2 minutes left in the 4th quarter, Fajardo, Capati and Dalisay able to narrow the lead of PSCC to 8 points. With Jun Reyes towering height and perimeter shooting added more headache to coach Dalisay, Jun Noble’s cross over and quick steals finally sealed Al Bustan.

Second Game between RKH/Al Jon and Al Habib Medical Center showed a seesaw battle during the first quarter, as usual, Rifleman Danny Bugayong break the ice with his first ICBM coming from the rainbow, Jill Jusay playing off guard together with Bugayong hassled RKH. Veteran Billy Quinones, Jun Elago, Jonal Abdul Lopez, Boy Yabut, and Rookie Romy Baloran failed to control Jeff Baybay at the shaded area while Jusay converted 9 points at the buzzer end of the first quarter.

At the third quarter, Ferdie Ligan, Leo Santos, Victor Yabut, Elago, and Quinones reorganized and tried to rally behind 15 points deficit against Habib failed to recover. Nailed at 22 points, Coach Lafayette Caliolio of Al Habib fielded Roy Cajalne, Nonoy Francisco, Cesar Yalung, John Deles, Kenneth Guimalan, Cris Labonete and crowds favorite Pablo at the fourth quarter. Final score: Al Habib 109 — RKH/Aljon 87; Best Player of the game Jeff Baybay received gift certificate from Al Mohr Cargo.
