JEDDAH, 12 April — Jimmy De Leon of Alma Glass won the second series of CCC Amateur round-robin and Stepladder Knockout final. The championship clash of De Leon and Rommel Casana of ABV Rock broke the tie under accelerating time control.

Game one of Sicilian Defense, white pieces or pole leader De Leon outclassed the unorthodox style of Casana. After 10 minutes rest, game two was followed.

The ABV Rock player with his back against the wall dismantled De Leon French Defense-Winawer variations and forced a playoff.

During the deadlock Casana gained good position in the middle game and failed to capitalize a black draw — win instead De Leon countered and checkmate Casana.

Casana — first runner-up and Anselmo Seidel of Al Obiri Rent-A-Car — second runner-up.

The series number 3 will begin 2:00 p.m. today at the Community Chess Club.

The phase one of the tournament will be the active single round-robin and the last stage will be the Stepladder Knockout final. The final will be the best-of-two games — one white and one black, 30 minutes each player or equivalent to one hour per game and will follow FIDE active rules. In the playoff, it will be sudden-death under faster time control (15-15 minutes).

The pole leader or white pieces must win while a draw is a victory for black. Late entrants are welcome until closing time. Willy Lumboy will run the event as usual. The Community Chess Club will pick up some of the out of pocket expenses such as administrative materials.
