BAHRAIN, 12 April — Saudi rider Fahad Al Eid emerged victorious in the Grand Prix category of the Kingdom of Bahrain Open Showjumping Championship, which concluded recently at the Ministry of Interior’s grass show ground, in Budaiya.

The Saudi Olympic hero, riding Sarha, took home the Goys Cup after a tough challenge from Prince Abdullah ibn Mita’ab ibn Abdullah Al Saud, who took second spot while riding Dhikeralla, while third prize went out to Bahrain’s Abbas Isa Al Ghuraifi who rode Tami.

Al Ghuraifi was in a fine form which gave Bahrain the best record in the championship.

Over 78 riders from Bahrain and the GCC countries competed it out in the two-day event which featured stiff competition. Thursday’s competition got off with the fourth and fifth juniors divisions.

Bahrain-based rider Natalie De Souza rode Arch Angel to first position in the juniors division, ahead of Catherine Edgar from Bahrain who rode Concierge, while Elena Galbraith of Bahrain came third, riding Tami.

The final day of the championship featured a cowboy show performed by local riders and a horse show with the Kingdom’s top Arabian horses on display.

The final was held under patronage of Shaikh Isa ibn Salman ibn Hamad ibn Isa Al Khalifa, and Shaikh Mohammed ibn Salman Al Khalifa, sons of the Crown Prince and President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport, Shaikh Salman ibn Hamad Al Khalifa.

Shaikh Isa awarded the trophies to the winners of each category during the final ceremony. Also present in the final event were president of the Goys, Shaikh Fawaz ibn Mohammed Al Khalifa, president of the Bahrain Equestrian Association (BEA), Shaikh Khalid ibn Abdullah Al Khalifa, head of the GCC delegations, invited guests and a huge crowd.

On his part, Shaikh Fawaz awarded a commemorative gift to the patrons and praised the efforts of the championship’s officials and the contributions from organizing committee members which made this event a grand success.
