JEDDAH, 12 April — The second phase of big-time basketball all over Jeddah for the year 2002 is about to unfold at the Al-Ahli Gym as the Saudi Companies Basketball Association — United Team and the Jeddah All-Sports Development (JADE) have combined forces to give basketball enthusiasts their money’s worth and cool comfort.
Aware that the prickly summer heat is fast approaching and that it is very much conducive to play indoor basketball at this time of the year, the combined SCBA United Team and JADE organizers have conceptualized a unique and exciting basketball tournament. They are also offering teams a very reasonable entry fee and a very special concession — teams are given the privilege to either play with their existing uniforms or procure their uniforms from any tailoring outfit they would prefer.
The SCBA United Team will parlay the so-called “Partnership Cup”, which will be contested in three divisions: Inter-Commercial Open Rated, Inter-Company Bonafide and 40 Years Old & Above divisions. JADE on the other hand will unfurl the “Battle of the Champions” (Jeddah Leagues) division which targets champion teams in any Jeddah League from year 2000 upwards. It will be contested in two categories: Intercommercial Open Non-rated champions and Inter-company Bona fide Champions.
The tentative opening date will be on (Friday) May 3. Registration fee is only SR 2,000 and it is explicitly conveyed to all that package payment for uniform formerly with Al-Gomri is done away with so as to ease off the financial burden for prospective team entrants.
