RIYADH, 19 April — Veteran Johnny de Asis and the defending champion, the Stinger team colored the lanes red to share awards by clinching the bowler of the week and the team of week honors in the 5th week of the STBC Sunday Family Bowling League being played at the Riyadh Inter-Continental Hotel Bowling Centre.
De Asis, a former professional ball driller and now wearing the jerseys of the Quadro team, emerged as the bowler of the week awardee by posting a remarkable for game series of 887.
The defending champion, the Stinger team led by Boy Fogata, likewise, shared bowling spotlight with the Asis by grabbing the team of the week award in their exciting match against the Quadro team. The Stinger snatched 22 big points over the Quadro. Stinger’s brilliant display of games came through the extraordinary performance of veteran Art Palustre. Palustre sparkled a remarkable game series of 869 on lines of 191, 199, 189 and a towering 258 in the last game. Extending splendid support to Palustre were fellow George Avellana Rina Labo and Fogata who contributed a separate series of 839, 756 and 730. Rey Perez and Rene Lalata added a series of 397 and 383 in two games.
For the Quadro team who sealed 18 points, leading scorer was the bowler of the week honoree Johnny de Asis with a series of 887. Rene Estrada had 775 while Ding Gales and Tess Jose scored a separate series of 743 and 737. Romy Repia toppled a series of 535 in three games and Sam Bejar rolled 224 in one game.
The Philippine National Bank team defeated the Controllers (22 - 3). James Frizzle sparkled 806 series to power the PNB to post a convincing victory over the Controllers. Jun Pineda and Elmer Penoso sizzled to score with a series of 750 and 734. Usman Navarro and Romy Cruz submitted a series of 349 and 311 in two games.
Cris Tolosa led the Controllers by tallying a four-game series of 748, followed by Romy Liggayu (729) and Rico Feria (720). Ed Esmana and Fe Cayde pocketed a separate four-game series of 676 and 666.
The league leader, the ABB Tribe recorded another impressive win against the Barkada (21 - 9). Submitting the best output in the ABB Tribe were Glenn Espiritu (622), Prima Abulencia (618) and JB Buyson (602). Mel Solas and Aurel Farinas dazzled to score a series of 539 and 526. Ace “vergel” Sulit toppled a series of 392 in two games.
Claudio Rapadas, Joe Nakhong and Toom Sriprom led in the Barkada by posting a separate four game series of 777, 752 and 732. Nino Fajutagana scored 494 in three sets while Oca Teves and Ver Bisares submitted a series of 380 and 353 in two games, respectively.
The games between the RB Laneking and the Saudi British Bank resulted at 19.5 - 10.5. Laura Ringor, Ted Anis and Leo Estacio were on top in the RB Laneking by carding a series of 653, 650 and 617. Noli Aglian downed a series of 374 while Diony Mabanto and Danny Paredes sealed a series of 355 and 330.
At the forefront in the Saudi British Bank were the trios of Oca Bernabe (758), Willie Pamilaran (756) and Ellen Bernabe (729). The energetic Egai Asuncion shot a series of 656 and Eden Bergonio and Vic Marzo garnered a series of 417 and 334.
The exciting games between the PK-Boomerang and the Inevitable tied at 15-all. Reden Tulabut led in the PK-Boomerang with a series of 811 while Millette Honculada seared the lanes to score a series of 738 in four games. The debuting Jimmy Medina carded a series of 573 in three matches and Larry Mondoy fired a three game series of 443. Raul Medina and Rolly Amis had a series of 373 and 331.
Ronnie Cayde was at helm in the Inevitable team with a series of 795. Arnel Garlan and Rodel Huidem scored a series of 772 and 722. Promising Beth Timpog and Bobby Jamora dazzled to hammer a series of 428 and 409 in two games and Pauline Kambores and Junises Bation sealed a series of 385 and 330.
The Power Grip walloped the Philippine Embassy (18-14) and topscoring in the Power Grip were Donjie Mapalad (824), Benny Quebral (805) and Gladys Acosta (805). Bal Marcelino scored 520 points and Ed Cunanan rolled 384 series.
Neil Gafur and Arlene Arenas led in the Philippine Embassy by posting a series of 782 and 740. Alex Pangomping registered a series of 592 and Arnold “turbo” Salcedo downed 407.
The STBC set of officers are Egai Asuncion, Chairman, Ed Esmana, Assistant Chairman, Noli Agliam, secretary/statistician, Danny Agcaoili, treasurer, Wilson Ringor, technical director with members Nino Fajutagana, Rene Lalata and Abe Asuncion. Ver Bisares, director for awards and prizes.
Meanwhile, the much-awaited 2nd OFW Worldwide Summer Balikbayan Bowlfest is set on April 25 at the SM City Bowling Center, North Edsa, West Avenue, Quezon City, Philippines. The sponsors are the SkyFreight Forwarders and the ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel (TFC).
