RIYADH, 19 April — Accounts Division lifted the Kanoo/Norwich Union Insurance Inter-Division cricket tournament title by defeatubg the last year’s winners Travel Division by 7 wickets at Kanoo grounds. The tournament was sponsored by Norwich Union Insurance.
Travel Division, after winning the toss and elected to bat first, started well but, later batsmen could not capitalize the advantage of batting first, and finished their stipulated overs by scoring 113 runs.
Syed Zakiuddin and Travis played some sensible cricket and scored 34 and 36 runs respectively for Travel Division. Hadier Ali and Kiritharan took 2 wickets each by giving away 24 and 23 runs respectively while Rajkumar bagged one wicket conceding 21 runs for Accounts.
Chasing a non-too impressive score, Accounts easily romped home in 20.4 overs by losing 3 wickets in the process. Sohail Younis top scored with an unbeaten 49, Mahendra contributed 26 and Gopakumar 22 n.o. for Accounts. Syed Zakiuddin took 2 wickets conceding 16 runs for Travel Division. Sohail Younis was adjudged “Man-of-the-Match” for his fine unbeaten innings. Hassan Khan and Saeed Sadiqullah officiated the match.
In an impressive prize distribution ceremony held at the ground, Condard Nazareth welecomed the guests, James Milne, area manager Central Province Kanoo, gave away the prizes and Kiritharan, senior accountant, thanked all sponsors, players, guests and Kanoo family for their excellent support.
