DAMMAM, 3 May — Shining Star defeated Silver Storm via a penalty kick and entered the final of Eastern Province Football Tournament at Dammam Saptco Football ground on last Friday.
The match was so exciting since both teams made many attempts to score. In the dying minutes of the second half, Shining Star got a penalty kick which turned as game-winner for Shining Star. B.V.Hashim of Shining Star who made a number of attempts at the beginning of the first half could not notch the scoreboard; but Suneer succeeded in converting the penalty. Complimenting the victory, team director A.M.Mamukoya and manager C.P.Alikoya expressed their satisfaction and added that their boys were very hardworking and showed their professionalism. O.Kunchahammed, K.V.Mamukoya and A.P.Zakariya were the referees. Rising Sun will play against Blue Moon today to decide the other finalist. Al-Rabie-sponsored sports drink Pulz and Mixi drinks were distributed at the ground.
In the mini-football final for children, Blue Moon outclassed Silver Storm by three goals.
The calculated movements of Rifad Samad, Vasil Razak and Sahir Abdurahiman could easily break the defense of Silver Storm headed by Hafiz Mamu. Rifad Samad netted two goals for Blue Moon and the third goal was from the boot of Vasil Razak.
In the children’s quiz competition conducted in connection with the tournament, Rising Sun team won the first place and Blue Moon got second place. Aftab Musthafa, Anju Musthafa, Jishan Backer, Mazin Backer and Shanida Rasheed represented the team. In the ladies quiz competition Shining Star team comprising of Manju Noufal, Farhana Sabir, Neelina Suneer, Jameela Assu and Haleema Fazalu won the first place and Silver Storm team won the second place.Mariyu Sageer of Indian Emabassy School Dammam was the quiz master and Lubna Aboobacker was the scorer.
