JEDDAH, 10 May — It’s the 38th week in the long-running BBG Tuesday Night League organized by the Brotherhood Bowling Group here at the 24-lane Jeddah Bowling Center.

The match was highlighted by the incredible performances of Saudi Arabian Fadi Al Twaireb. He flashed his sterling performances and led Abudawood Trading to the fore en route to claiming the team and individual honors up for grabs during the week.

Al Twaireb unerringly seared the lanes with solid strikes to score a 3-game series of 815. His awesome style produced unprecedented scores in the lines of 267, 243 and 278, which were all fortified by his 9-pin handicap per game. He claimed the bowler of the week award but his feat, however, was short by two pins to break the high series with handicap record being held by the perfect-record holder Rene Santiago (816).

With the 3-game assist each from Lindo Villanueva (640), Hero Garcia (558) and Levis Janaban (620), Abudawood scored 81 points to snatch the team of the week award. The 59 points they earned from the series of 921 (22 points), 838 (17 points) and 874 (20 points) were fortified by the 22 rank points (2633).

In accordance to the existing league rules, the prize, however, will be presented to Guess? Team, which have recorded 41 points. Jess Escondo, Gil Ordonez, Ariel Urquia and Vhoi Ycong produced the team’s tally.

Top Gun quartet of Ruben Medina (683), Bert Tuvera (615), Leo Edejer (637) and Rudy Valenzuela (631) vehemently opposed Abudawood on the last stretch after suffering a setback on the second game but the quartet could only manage to snatch 75 points.

Al Alamiah Insektos of BBG honcho Arnold C. Alday were accelerating on the second and final sets but their average series of 816 (14) at the beginning had effected their search for additional points. After posting a series of 874 (21) and 904 (22) on the two remaining games, Al Alamiah flew away with 79 points including the 21 rank points (2594).

Front-runner Internet@Kape, pitted against Al Alamiah, went close after the second game (872 for 21 points) but the team dived on the final encounter when Goying Salazar, Roger Dacquioag, Mixi Lechuga and Alex Guinto submitted merely 741 pins. Adding 15 points from the initial match, Internet grossed 64 including the 16 rank points (2434).

Playing unopposed due to the default of Bakin & Co., PICPA-PRO displayed their consistency in the first two games, scored 20 points (836) at the start and 20 points (866) at the penultimate. On the final bend, the team lost the steam of their games. All of them rolled off below average, save Danny Cofreros who swipped a scratch score of 215. After all the scores were tabulated, the ‘accountants’ settled down with a credit balance of 63.

The match between the handicap-rich N-Ball and the team of the Middle East Broadcasting Company (MBC) ended in a cliffhanger that after the 3-game encounter N-Ball scored 64 while MBC recorded 65.

KKB quartet of Randy Mata, Ver Luz, Cril Balasico and Majid Aslani took advantage of the no-show of the Power Strikers Team. Equipped with a total team handicap of 33, the quartet drew 68 points at the line sof 16 (824), 16 (832) and 17 (822) including the 19 (2478) bonus points.

Goying Salazar submitted his 7th entry to the BBG Elite Club at a score of 268. Fadi Al Twaireb pass two cards, at 267 and 278 for his second and third entry, respectively. Mishal Al-Hamdi scored 253 for his third entry while Leo Edejer joined the pack with his initial score of 258.

The major sponsor of the league is the National Commercial Bank thru Corporate Public Relations Director Farouk Eid and Public Relations Officer Hussein Ahmed Ali.

Al Amoudi Sports Center (Jeddah), through General Manager Abdulrahman Al Amoudi, who gave sports items to be given away to the participants over the course of the league.

In a related development, the heat had intensified at the qualifying rounds of the First Summer Open Bowling Tournament going on at the Jeddah Bowling Center (JBC). The event, which has a total cash prize of more than SR30,000, is jointly organized by the Brotherhood Bowling Group (BBG), Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) and the Jeddah Bowlers League (JBL).

The tournament, open to all male bowlers in the Kingdom, is slated until May 30. The rules and format of the tournament are posted at the JBC Bulletin Board.
